Key questions to unravel Myths about Ministry
1. Is every Christian a Minister?
Ministry is basically service, a minister is a servant or, in applied senses, a worker. So the question to ask is that, is every Christian a servant of God or God’s worker? This is answered in Ephesians 2:10, which shows that every Christian is a minister.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

John 15:1-2
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
John 15:5-6
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
John 15:8
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
Every believer is God’s worker or minister and is expected to be productive. However the means by which this is achieved is something that must be understood.
There are Full-time ministers who do no other work than what is directly related to the ministry, and there are Lay ministers who do both the work of the ministry as well as other secular work.
God requires us to work for Him whether Lay or Full-time; He hates idleness or unproductivity.
What about my offerings in church?
No! Your offering is not enough! Your offering is just to express appreciation to God. The first commandment to any believer is to love God with all. God needs your all.
Deuteronomy 6:5
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
2. Do I need to sing or Play in my Local church?
You must use your musical skill for God’s Glory through service, however your local church is only one of the places you can do so. It is important to be a member of a church. The church is a good place to start singing and be well-guided to fruition. However singing as your service to God is not limited to your local Church, just as Ministry is not limited to the auditorium.
3. Can I join multiple Christian Groups to Sing or Play?
Yes you can. Besides your local church, there are outreach ministries, music ministries, even media ministries and so many other ministries which require the use of music. What you need to know is that where has God called you to be, and how effective are you where you are?
What God demands is your effectiveness in His vineyard. If you are part of any ministry, be committed and be effective. Make your priorities known so that you do not offend anyone.
If you are a part of a prisons ministry for example, and it is conflicting with your local church activities, have a discussion with your pastor, so that you can be well-guided to be effective. Don’t be a busy-body achieving little and causing commotion everywhere. Stay focused, be planted, do not roam.
Anytime you are becoming ineffective because of multiple commitments, please it is time to sit and re-evaluate to choose where to be committed to and to better place your priorities.
