LESSON OUTCOMES

  1. What is a wave?
  2. Parts of a wave
  3. What is Amplitude
  4. Pitch vs Amplitude

It is Important that you watch the video to gain full understanding

This refers to the intensity of sound:  how loud or soft a sound is. Sound can be said to have a high volume or low volume.

X = Time   |   Y = Wavelength

Amplitude refers to the degree of displacement of a wave from it’s mean position

In terms of hearing, amplitude refers to the volume of a sound.

The name amplifier was from the word amplitude.

What happens when we sing?

Speaking or singing displaces air particles, forming waves of sound of varying amplitudes

Waves

The most important part of this definition is that a wave is a disturbance or variation which travels through a medium. The medium through which the wave travels may experience some local oscillations as the wave passes, but the particles in the medium do not travel with the wave.

Parts of a Wave

All bodies on earth vibrate. All particles in any organ of the human body vibrate. All the vibrations come together to achieve equilibrium.

Pitch vs Amplitude

What can you say about these waves?
